Is it Still Worth Getting Solar in Louisiana? 2024

If you missed the solar heyday in Louisiana you might be thinking that it is no longer cost effective to get solar in Louisiana. It's true that the state is no longer giving the massive tax credits and most electric companies are using the avoided cost scam, but that doesn't mean that solar is no longer a good idea. Here are 5 reasons that solar is still a good idea and how to make sure you get the best bang for your buck!

Meter spinning backwards is a beautiful sight!

  1. Energy INDEPENDENCE! Pay once, power for life. With better technology and smarter battery systems you can be free from both your electric company's bills AND their outages.

  2. Reliable power that you can count on. During an outage, your system won't need fuel, won't need oil changes, won't make noise and won't need maintenance. Your system turns on in microseconds, neither you nor your appliances will know you switched to batteries. The installation is engineered to withstand 140+mph winds. We have had systems exposed at 155mph that are still standing.

  3. Cost! 30% of your system (including batteries and optional generator) is a dollar for dollar federal tax credit. Isn't it our duty to not give Washington any more money? Second, this system will pay for itself in energy savings, and outage costs. Will your generator do that for you?

  4. Energy Prices are still going up and the grid is still going down. Prices are climbing, fees get added and never removed. Outages take longer and longer. The grid is aging. In Louisiana we all know someone who either could not get fuel in an outage or the generator didn't work and they couldn't get service. And even if they do run $200/day fuel charges add up quickly.

  5. Batteries store your extra energy from the day and use that power at night so you get to keep the power your system puts out instead of selling it to your electric company for a harsh discount.

How to get the best bang for your energy buck.

  1. Work with a company that understands the finances of the industry. This is not a product, its an investment. The ever changing utility pricing rules can get complicated. The benefits and incentives change frequently.

  2. Go Local! Most of the time there is no need for maintenance but if something happens, like your kid's golf club goes through a panel (we've had that happen), you'll want someone local.

At Solar Louisiana we how how to give you the biggest return on your investment. We've been doing this for a long time. (2009)
